I haven’t ridden there in 20 years. It’s now on my staycation list.

After a buddy/coworker mentioned his recent purchase of a mountain bike I decided to dust off my bike, kit and myself after 12 years since riding. Was out at Mcintosh yesterday for my first ride since 2008, went to look around at Long Lake today but couldn’t find much for single track, seemed pretty over grown so ended up coming back to Mcintosh. Wiped out on this rocky brook crossing area yesterday but decided to go for it again today, however this time my wipe out broke the sole on one of my shoes, I didn’t notice however and continued on but noticed my shoe felt weird by the time I got to the start of the Flat Lake trail, looked down and noticed I had a chunk of the carbon fiber plate gone from my shoe, decided to turn around and head back, maybe made it ~300 yards before the sole started peeling off. Dismounted and put the sole/plate in the pocket of my jersey and started walking, next the foam liner and insole started separating from the shoe as I walked and then I noticed the sole of the other shoe was tearing away from the walking. Removed both shoes, my socks and walked the rest of the way out. So I guess I’ve finally worn those shoes out and can justify a new pair.
Check out my apparently obsolete but still hella fun antique by the little brook on The Attic trail that keeps trying to eat me.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. These are quality photos. I wonder if @Rolls has any formal training. Nascad ?

That section will be getting some love this summer.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the section more my lack of skill is likely to blame, maybe I will get it next time. The things I find a little more daunting with my 90mm of fork travel are some of the drop offs but until my catastrophic shoe failure I was doing a lot of features today that I was walking yesterday, got to walk them all on the way out today lol.
Speaking of trail work though, looking on https://mcintoshrun.ca/volunteer/ the sign up for trail volunteers seems to be missing not sure if that is a mistake or if it was taken down but it says " Sign up for the Trail Volunteers mailing list here:" and then nothing, there isn’t a link.

The fixes have nothing to do with difficulty, it’s a section that bottle necks water when the creek is full. Not evident now as it’s so dry but it’s in the forecast to fix and allow the better flow of water.

As for volunteerism it says to email. From there you will be contacted. Also keep an eye on the forum here as any public build days are usually shared for the wider community.

@Dexvd welcome back to MTBing! If you’re interested in easing back into it on some lower consequence trails I’d recommend the other end of McIntosh Run, at the Norawarren trailhead.

There’s a couple singletrack loops to warm up on and from there you can extend your rides out further on West Pine and then DuckNRun, which are more technical but much tamer than the main McIntosh Run trails you’ve been on. It’s a great spot to hone your skills and work on progressing.

Do you use the TrailForks app to navigate?

Hey, thanks for pointing out that the ‘volunteer email list’ widget isn’t working on the MRWA website. A few edits were done recently, and stuff went funny. We’ll fix it.
In the meantime, feel free to reach out to mcintoshrun@gmail.com and someone can manually add you to the email list, just as @Goose says.

I have just been following the signs/blue marks which I’m grateful for lol as compared to Long Lake which seems to be abandoned by the mtb scene, went there and took a lot of dead ends every time I thought I found single track off the main double track routes. I don’t have a computer at all except for a 12 year old cat eye that needs some batteries but was wondering if some of the Garmins or similar products might be able to load the trail maps from Trail Forks, not sure what people use, pretty out of touch with modern technology in general for my setup right now I guess lol.
Will check out the Norawarren end next time (once I get a new pair of clipless shoes), made it to Flat Lake on Thursday but didn’t keep going from there to DuckNrun.

It was a hot one, but the trails were hard and fast

If you have a smartphone, I recommend using the Trailforks app. All the McIntosh Run trails are up-to-date on Trailforks. You don’t even need to be ‘online’ for the Trailforks maps to work – just be sure to download the maps for Nova Scotia before you start your ride.
