That’s a sweet bike.
Reshaping this line took almost eight hours of work over two afternoons. Stripping out the loam, which was close to two feet deep at the bottom, rock armouring, then layering mineral soil over top, all from a dirt well down the hill. My goal was to reshape a line that was being heavily impacted by motos, making it durable enough to stand up to the throttle jockeys while maintaining the raw qualities of the trail and improving the flow on the jankiest section of a janky trail. I dug into a wasp nest in the dirt well under an overturned stump, but the stings were worth the reward linking two very tight turns in the middle of technical downhill section.
Fun gravel grinder. Best part of this ride came in two parts.
The first one was when I met two sxs near the top of a long climb. Got a good morning from the dads and saw the awestruck look in the faces of the 6-11 year olds with them at the sight of some old coot riding a bicycle up an icy dirt road.
The second time was when I saw them again two hours later on the rails trails close to home. The look on their faces…
