Current Trail Conditions

Any reports from the valley?

We’ve got snow for sure. Will do some recon later today. I expect there it’s icy under the surface still, not sure if we got enough good coverage to hide the ice yet.

update - yeah kinda crusty sugar snow, not much down in the wood but lots still up in the trees. I may try riding (or xc skiing) tomorrow but going to let the wind blow down some more out of the trees first.

Nine Mile has a thin layer of pebbled ice over most of the trail. Conditions for studded tire riding look excellent. Looks iffy for nonstudded tires.

Rode most of Bird today. On some sections I was the first one through, on others I was the sixth fatty through after Lorenzo’s crew. It’s narrow, but well packed and it’s not that deep anyway, except up along the top ridge of the pit.

Any type of bike should be able to go through tomorrow, studs or not.

Any reports for Gore - ice patches?

Nine mile river trails are currently frozen solid with studs highly recommend. Everything including the old woods road is open and in great shape

Someone posted on FB that the Evil Birch trailhead has been “blocked by mounds of rubble which mainly consist of concrete and masonry bricks”

That pile of rubble has been there for at least five years. Can get over/around it.

Wasn’t sure if it was a new development as I’ve never ridden there before. Might check it out over the winter

Ya get in there while you can. That whole quarry area is slated for housing development.

Word last night was that Gore is solid and icy. Studs required.

Just walked Norawarren, half of West pine, and back up through Gutterball / Boulderama. Pretty greasy through most of it, so would advise sticking to the granite until things either dry out or freeze up again to avoid trail damage.

Most of the ice is gone at Nine Mile. Mostly bare ground- hero dirt when frozen. A few icy patches here and there. The ground is a bit frost heaved so a bit bumpy in places.

The Farm got about 6 - 8 inches of wet snow. I was able to pack in a route today on the fat bike, and got significantly better with each pass in cross over areas.

If it got a bit more traffic before the freeze it could make for a very good local spot to ride fatty.
