How many kms should we expect for a set of tires?

What do you get on a set of MTB tires?

I usually get more than a season out of a set, so 1000km+. I use the hardest rubber compounds I can get and ride very little on pavement. I bet people riding the granite get way less.

In Hali, riding whopper I would go through 2 sets per season. Mind you they were not expensive tires at the time. In Moncton, I would 2-3 seasons on one set. That was all due to the terrain. I need to replace the tires on my Stumpy for next season so I only got one season out of them.

What is a season in kms?

I’ve gotten 3 seasons out of my single compound Maxxis Ardents. Not really sure how many kms are on them. I try to keep pavement riding on them to a minimum. They aren’t bald yet but are definitely worn down and loosing grip at times when they wouldn’t have before, and as usual I am suffering from upgradeitùs so I’ve bought a dual compound Maxxis High Roller II and Aggressor to replace them.

If I had Maxxis tires with the 3C compound I probably would have had a bit more grip, but the side knobs would have started ripping off and the thread worn out ages ago.

I get about 1000-1200 km out of a triple compound (Evolution line) Nobby Nic on the rear. Close to 3000 km on a Hans Dampf triple compound on the front. The Nobby Nics go on a different wheel set for rails to trails and similar riding after that for some more use.

I think it really depends on the terrain you ride most frequently. I am on Fight most of the time, so I am happy to get a season out of them due to all the granite they encounter. I do find certain tires better. I had a set of Kenda Nevegals that were shot in less than 2 months of riding, wrecked one of the Nobby Nics that came on my new bike in about the same amount of time. My replacements both times were Continentals(Trail Kings and then Mountain King II’s) and they hold up great, giving me at least a season out of them.

I have been riding my Mountain King II’s since the first week of July, with the bulk of the time spent on Fight, and they are still going strong. I would guess they have seen about 600 kms thus far, Obviously rear dies much quicker than the front…

I ride Fight a fair bit. I’ll usually get about half a season out of a set of Nobby Nics or Maxxis HR2s. I generally buy the softest compound I can find.
