Newbi question about tires

Probably something that has been covered before, so I apologize if this is one of those annoying topics. I saw a post from 2019 but that was not yesterday. What are people running for tires?

I mainly go to Mac and Whopper with a bit of Gore. Right now I’m running Bontrager XR5 2.5" in the front and Maxxis Dissector 2.4 in the rear. I get a half season out of the Dissector, wish I could get more but the tire feels planted for my novice skill level. I am thinking about doing an assegai up front when it comes time to change out the Bontrager. Anyone else going with different versions front and rear? Is there a typical tire used around here? Is this too aggressive and I just need to get better on a less aggressive tire?

I’ve been riding maxxis minions for the past few years and find them to be a great balance between grip and fast rolling. But before that I tried a bunch of different options. And, honestly I think it’s just what works for you. I’ve tried everything from semi-slick to enduro casing and various widths. There isn’t a perfect option, so just try to find what you like

This is what chat GPT says

I think the most common ones people seem to use are an aggressor or DHR2 on the rear and DHF or Assegai on the front. I’ve tried a few different setups including the dissector which didn’t last long on the granite. Well less then norm. Right now I’m trying out DHR2 front and rear in the maxxterra compound and been liking it so far

If your riding gore, macrun and whopper

Try a Maxxis Rekon rear and forekaster front.

Assegai is insane overkill for those trails imo, and alot of unneeded weight.

My 2 cents

I ride DHRii and Assegai, but that’s because I spend a lot of time at Bowater and similar. I find the Rekon is an awesome all around tire, a lot of grip but fast rolling

Anyone running the Continentals? They look like a good option.

I just mounted up a 2.6 argototal front and a 2.4 krytotal R in the back and have had no complaints. I am going off of a maxxis 2.5 assegai front and 2.4 dhr 2 rear setup. I mainly ride McRun, but run the same tire setup no matter where I ride. I always go for bigger and beefier enduro style tires as the extra grip comes in handy for saving my bacon when I make terrible line choices.

I have the Krypotal F and R in 2.4 in stock at Granite Suspension. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in pricing, I also have a handful of Maxxis rubber in stock as well.
