I agree that trends tend to get repeated over time. For the older ones here, we remember making our road bikes be able to handle dirt roads with wider tires back in the day. Heck, I managed to put a drop bar on my mountain bike, because I wanted to be like John Tomac.

More recently, there used to be quite the options when it came to 3" tires for DH use. Now, we have plus size tires.

short stays, short stem, long top tube = fisher genesis geometry from 20 years ago.

and salsa cycles has been making drop bar mountain bikes for nearly a decade, of i’m not mistaken.
