Tips for trunk carrier

Hey all! So I had been using a hitch mounted carrier for my talon, but recently traded in that van, new one doesn’t have a hitch. My car also doesn’t. I picked up a trek mass transit trunk rack for next to nothing. So I set it all up for a test fit, and I’m worried about the mounting hooks damaging the paint. Any tips on preventing this, or should I just out a hitch on my car.

I vote for hitch. It’s so easy to damage the car/bikes with any truck rack.

I’ve had 3 or 4 trunk mounted racks ranging from cheap Canadian tire branded ones to expensive Thule ones ordered from overseas and they’ve all scratched my paint at one point or another, investing in a hitch and rack is the way to go, just my 2 cents

You know you want the hitch.

Sounds like you already have a hitch rack too.

I had a trunk mounted rack many years ago. Never again!

Your right I do have the carrier. Hitch it is.

It’s the right choice. I put one on my Subaru just to have a hitch rack.
