What do you do with old tubes?

I know there are ways to repurpose/upcycle an old tube, but I don’t really have anything I can use them for. Can they be recycled? Or are they just trash?

Cyclesmith has a recycle program. They’ll take tires and tubes.

That does remind me, I do have some old tires to get rid of too. Will check with them. Thanks!

Hang them off a hook with the intent of patching them “later”.

Well, at least that’s better than the people who used to make ‘trail art’ with their blown tubes.

I had a huge set of old tubes and worn tires before we moved, recycled them all.

I also use them to keep barn doors open. So there’s that.

You can use an old tube to make a mud-guard for your dropper post.

I’ve also seen people wrap them on the chain stay as a means to protect and quiet the bike.

do they still smell of tube? or is there a trick?

I washed them with some dish soap to get the white powdery stuff off. Smell hasn’t been an issue.

We recycle them at Valley Stove and Cycle as well. I’ve heard that some hockey coaches use them for dry land training.
