Up this way Irishman’s Rd is almost rideable, the wooded sections are good but the open areas were drifted in. We gave up and snowshoed it instead in preparation for another day. Someday soon it will be a 4km long 18" wide ribbon of hardpack. You don’t want to go off the track or you’ll be axle deep or worse!
Russell mentioned Wrandees is awesome right now.
I’m planning to hit there at 7:30pm, from exhibition park entrance. All are welcome.
Looks like tomorrow and possibly Saturday are the only days for the next two weeks that it will cold enough to ride on the snow. Get out and ride while you can!
Anyone know the current conditions at Exhibition Park/Long Lake? Thinking of hitting it tonight…
What about other spots in the city, what’s riding well with no studs required? I might get a chance to ride in the city tomorrow morning.
I might be in Hali Mon and Tuesday. I’d like to get out for a ride if the conditions are good and if there is anyone around.
Wrandees is awesome right now! Silky smooth.
So what are you doing Monday and Tuesday?
If weather stays good tuesday will be wrandees again. Too awesome right now.
I found a good loop too. Two times around it I think.
I will be there on Tuesday for sure. Monday not sure where to ride. Maybe Spider? Any word on conditions there?
Rode Wrandees also today. Did the Pipeline Loop, which was in great shape. Also went across the river, following the Pipeline toward the Area 51 trail. Narrow singletrack, pretty well packed until getting close to Area 51. We got off the trail onto the river/stream and followed that for a good stretch until the snow looked deep again - we didn’t push through to Area 51. I did break through the ice on the Wrandees side of the river, where it narrows down into a stream again, but it was only about a foot deep. Just got wet feet.
Worth a ride up there while the conditions are good!
Should I be going with or without studs on the following trails:
Shubie, Spider, Wrandees?
Uniacke Estates is stellar on the wood trails like Red Spruce Loop. Lots of footprints on the main trail by the house though. Studs not required as of Mar 9th
Wrandees is doable without studs but there are a couple of spots to look out for.
One spot on the pipeline loop near the lake is always bad. Off camber and icy. But if you know its coming you can take precautions. I’ve seen many there this weekend without studs.
I have not heard of anyone riding Spider.
Shubie has some icy spots, and was pretty slushy by 4:00 yesterday. I rode yesterday with chains on my tires, and had no problems in Shubie until I busted my rear chain. Lake Banook and the western half of Lake Mic Mac had enough snow that you could get away without studs, but the eastern half and Lake Charles were bare.
The Trans Canada Trail was all snow, with a narrow trail.
Was up at Reservoir Park in Wolfville today on my skis. One would be able to bike allot of the park right now, especially on a fatty. The main double track was very firm, the single track sections I skied were semi packed.
I will definitely be there sometimes this week.
Anyone been to Spider lately?
Had a short ride at Spider tonight. The road is well-packed crust and very rideable. The trailhead side of Replicator has some deep footprints through the crust, although the other end looks better. Outer Peace (the Six Pack side of Inner Peace) looked rideable although we didn’t do it. Inner Peace and Spintastic look almost rideable, but we broke through crust. Skull is well-packed, but narrow. We didn’t go very far down Skull tho. The Ribbon was a good ride down. Could be a good ride if you can get there before Sunday’s storm.
Despite the huge dump of snow we just had Wrandees is actually shaping up nicely. Here’s some shots from tonight’s snowshoe stomp.
