How was it?
Also, I’m an intermediate rider with a hardtail. I don’t jump or do anything risky,
Will,I be ok on my hardtail, or should I rent a downhill bike?

A hardtail would be fine on most of the new
stuff green/blues. If you want to try some of the more rooty/rocky tech it may be worthwile to try a full suspension rental.
Thinking about going up tomorrow (Saturday) but am concerned about the heat. Any thoughts?
Thanks.
I’m thinking I might spend the morning on my hardtail, and get a feel for the trails (I skied there many years ago, but never rode there).
Then maybe rent a down hill bike for the afternoon. Been thinking of getting into a dual suspension bike anyway… Might be a good way to kill two birds with one stone.
Forecast for the next several days is around 30, so that’s a really good point.
I’ve never done it, so I can only speculate, based on my experience skiing there many years ago.
The lift will be very exposed, but also generating a breeze, and up higher, where the wind is stronger. So I wouldn’t think that wouldn’t be too bad, but I would really load up on the sunblock.
I suppose trail choice would be a factor too. Some of the ski trails were well shaded, so I assume some of the bike trails are as well. The staff could probably tell us which the best ones were from a sun exposure standpoint.
But I can’t imagine climbing the whole mountain under those conditions - for me it would be lift zone only.
I’ve been there most weekends (and live near by). The climb zone is well shaded and not too terrible in the heat. There is a connector road so you can ride the lift up and come down the “climb side” trails.
We got dumped with rain yesterday so my only caution is that the new lift access trails will likely be quite soft and slow rolling. The climb side trails should be fine as they are much more packed down. DM me if you have any questions/want a tour guide. Ill likely be there Sunday.
Good to know. I am going to head up tomorrow regardless and have some fun!
Have fun…hope you can give us a quick report on your experiences!
Thanks for the detailed response.
One more question…do you have any sense of how long the waits are in the lift lines?
And I’m assuming that they would be shorter on Friday?
There’s a live webcam if you ever want to check the lineups or current weather at the hill in real time.
Thanks for the webcam link.
It’s Friday at 3:30 right now, and there’s hardly any line at all…I’m even seeing some empty chairs going up.
Curious as to how long it takes to get to the top. I remember when martock tried it and it was a lonnng ride. I imagine this is much better.
Yup was not too painful today on the lift at all. Can’t compare to the martock experience as missed out on that.
Lines were good and short and trails drying up after the rain. Only was on the greens with the youngest but what else I scoped out myself looks fantastic and so much being built as well with tons of progression.
Can’t wait to get back there.
Spent the day there today. New jump trails drying up nicely with a few holes here and there that im sure they will be touching up asap.
Outer limits and hillbilly are superrrrr muddy along with lower section of bugs. Hopefully the rain gives us a little break for a week or so so they can dry up.
Everything in the climb zone is in really good shape.
also, WEAR SUNSCREEN! LOTS OF IT.
Just following up on this.
After years of riding MacRun, I went to WW forth the first time this year. I cant say enough about it. What a great atmosphere and set of trails.
The climb is great for the fitness. Paradigm is amazing, with some intense features. Kitchen Party (from the top) is amazing flow.
With the lift, I can then rest my legs a bit. Outer Limits is fun old school tech.
All great trails. I am not much for machine built trails, and I am a terrible jumper, but those trails look great too.
So much work being done. Props to WW for this!
Yup…went last Saturday. No lines just the 20 minute ride to the top. New trails are a blast. For those who want a solid workout, stick to climbing pass. Two thumbs up for the overall experience.
I have gone 3 times on my old hard tail, specialized P.3 with original park tires and only 80mm of front travel.
Greens are no problem loads of fun, the smooth jump trails are no problem.
Technical blue trails are a workout, you need to plan lines, probably learn a lot, but the reward to effort is “meh”
Black trails are possible. Very rewarding to get through some sections on old hardware but TBH I did end up buying a better bike.
So yes go ride on whatever you have.
Savage. Love it
