So I’m wondering if this derailleur hanger is fixable. It’s pretty badly bent. It’s a cromoly frame on an old Peugeot.
Pretty mangled but it’s steel so the prognosis is better than if it was aluminum. Bend it back, what have you got to lose?

The bike shops have a hanger tool. It’s screws into the derailleur threads and has an arm to make sure it’s straight again. I’d drop in and get them to try bending it back. Less likely to have issues (i.e. break the hanger) with the proper tool, and they’ll make sure it’s straight.
