The Train Gang Cycling Club is a recreational cycling club based out of the Train Station Bike & Bean in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia. The club organizes weekly gravel group rides that depart directly from the shop, offering an inclusive and moderately paced experience for cyclists of all levels. These rides are designed to be a fun, weekly social outing, allowing participants to explore the scenic gravel roads and trails of the St. Margaret’s Bay area on two wheels.
The mission of the Train Gang Cycling Club is to foster and promote the sport of cycling in the St. Margaret’s Bay area through group cycling events. We aim to provide a welcoming community for cyclists of all levels to connect, learn, explore local routes, and enjoy the benefits of riding together.
Our weekly Thursday group ride is a “no-drop” gravel ride with an average distance of 20 – 30 km, and a goal pace of 20km/h. We’ll regroup at the top of each major climb. Riders should be comfortable with loose climbs and descents. If you aren’t comfortable or haven’t ridden in a group before, please reach out to the club. Our goal is to be inclusive and welcoming; we’ll help you reach a level where you are comfortable riding with the group.
Our group departs at the Bike & Bean on Thursdays from July 10th until October 2nd at 6:30 PM with return planned for no later than 8:30 PM. Parking is available at the shop, or in the nearby SMB trail parking lot near Redmond’s Home Hardware. All riders should carry a basic repair kit, and any water and nutrition needed to complete the ride. All bikes shall be fitted with a rear red light and a bell for safety when riding on the road and SMB Trail. If you require any of these items they are available from the shop.
A gravel bike with tubeless tires is the preferred bike for our group rides. If you don’t have a gravel bike that’s ok, a XC style mountain bike will work as well. Hybrid bikes and road bikes aren’t recommended for the group rides due to the condition of some of the roads and trails that we ride on.
These social rides are a terrific opportunity to meet other riders and have fun.
A Cycling Nova Scotia membership is required to participate.
