Hi @Adam. I saw your post but it seems to be missing. Not sure why you removed it as you did have a couple of good points. A few articles I read got into the geometry\physics of the wider hub giving more stability to the 29 rim, it just went over my head so I did not post it. 
The main point I had was about 29er’s probably not needing the new hub standard because the old hub standard should give you stiff enough wheels with a sufficient number of good spokes.
So my post was totally off topic (full-squish fat bikes) and I removed it.
