Seen it a few times with tires.
Generally buy the time people are buying carbon wheel sets they’re pretty clued up.
I prefer roof racks for this and about 10 other reasons!
Like to know what types of hitch racks they are talking about. Most I’ve seen are fairly far away and up from the exhaust. 
Saw a melted tire before. Pretty ugly.
