This ride is great on a mountain bike. I tried it on a cross bike with 35c tires (with tubes) and was super paranoid about pinch flats. 45s and tubeless on a gravel bike would smooth this ride right out.
We used to do a ride called The Tour d Nowhere that was a variation of the Bear Scare route that involved getting dropped off in Ellershouse. I’ll see if I can find it. The one time I did it with a garmin the garmin wasn’t working very well. It also involved rolling past the water treatment plant at pockwock but it is probably best to take the tracks from the bike and bean back to Halifax now.
A few years ago on Thanksgiving I rode from home (Herring Cove) to Hantsport via the BLT, Bowater, Ellershouse, highway 2.

Other than flatting and being late for turkey dinner at the aunt’s place, it was great.
I arrived in time for pie, and then worked backward through the turkey dinner. LOL.
I was on a 'cross bike with 32s, and felt undergunned for most of Bowater. A gravel bike --slacker and with fatter tires - would have been the cat’s meow IMO.
