IMPORTANT NOtice

From the Hillsoborough Trail Association

IMPORTANT FOR ANYONE WHO USES THE TRAIL SYSTEM IN HILLSBOROUGH.
During this mornings ride we encountered someone on a motorcycle putting up signs for a motorcycle enduro race in the White Rock Recreational Area, which not only included the roads that ATV use but also singletrack (Whoops, Roots, the trail we just replaced the bridge on and others) and hiking trails . I was informed by him he had permission from the Village of Hillsborough to have the race.
This race would not only damage the trail system (which he had no intention of repairing), but would be an extremely dangerous to mountain bikers, hikers and other trail uses. There has been 1000’s of hours of volunteer work done over the years on these trails that needs to be protected so we may continue to use these trails safely for years to come.
Please help by contacting the Village of Hillsborough expressing your concerns to preserve the trail system, by not helping out it could lead to the end of the trails we all enjoy.

FOR ANYONE WHO HAS RIDDEN THESE TRAILS, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL OR CONTACT THEM TO LET THEM KNOW THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THIS COULD BE DEVESTATING TO ONE OF THE BEST TRAIL SYSTEMS IN THE ATLANTIC REGION.

I’ve seen motorcycle tracks across the bridges I’ve built… :x

It’s bizarre though, that a race would be allowed on a nature trail

I had a great chat with Dwayne Beaumont last night. There is a meeting today at 3pm to discuss the situation. If you haven’t already, send an email to the contact above to stop this race.

The ramifications are more than just one race. It will open those trails to use by motocross all the time making it dangerous for hikers and bikers on the trails. The trails are not built to withstand motorized use and will be destroyed by just the one race, let alone the continued use of the singletrack trails.

More importantly, the motocross riders to very little to no trail work in that area.

Email sent! Have never ridden there but as a mountain biker this is very concerning nonetheless. I think it’s a travesty that this is allowed to occur. Obviously who ever made this decision is either uninformed, misinformed or simply doesn’t care about the issues surrounding mountain bike specific trails and the hard work that people put into building and maintaining them. Most responsible mountain bikers take great care not to cause damage to the trails by riding them in soft and wet conditions. Regardless of the trail conditions use of these trails even once by a motorized vehicle will surely cause severe, unnecessary damage and should not be allowed to happen. Shame on those who gave permission to let this occur!

The situation has been averted for now. The event will be allowed to take place on the appropriate trails, not the the WRRA (White Rock Recreational Area) designated non-motorized trails.

There was some miscommunication between event organizer and Village council which allowed this to occur. Hopefully this will not create bad blood between any user groups in the area.
