Who’s up for gravel riding? Come on out Thursday evenings this September for beginner/intermediate level rides in the Island Lake Wilderness Area. These social rides are a terrific opportunity to meet other riders and have fun. If you don’t have a gravel bike your mountain or fat bike will do fine. These are no-drop rides with an average distance of 20 – 30 km with a goal pace of 20km/h. We’ll regroup at the top of each major climb. Riders should be comfortable with loose climbs and descents. Meet-up at the Train Station Bike and Bean in Upper Tantallon. The group departs at 6:30 PM with return planned for no later than 8:30 PM. Please bring a light, water, and a repair kit.

We’ve got a few options for routes this week so I’ll put it to a vote.
Melvin Brook Out And Back
Most of this ride is on Pipeline Rd. There’s climbing, but the road is in fair shape. 27km with 450ft of climbing.
Big Indian Lake Dam Out and Back (Catch 22) Primarily on Pipeline Rd with a portion of the Old Annapolis Rd. down to the dam. There’s a rough section. 22km with 700 feet of climbing.
I’m saving that one for next week. North Brewing $11 burger and fries with $5.75 craft beers. https://www.trailforks.com/ridelog/planner/view/542021 If we start at Jerry Lawrence Park instead of the Bean we can shave 10km off the route.
