Lake country BC

I’m moving out to Lake country in BC at the end of the month for I guess you would call it a midlife crisis, lol anyway, anybody from out that way can tell me about the biking I’ve never been there.

Hey Rock,

I’ve been in Kamloops for 11 years now, which is close to Lake Country but not quite. The riding in the southern interior (basically from me to the border, which will encompass you) is primarily loose over hard, fast trails with sweeping corners, or as some trails get steeper, loose over loose (it’s a fun sensation!). It’ll take a while to get used to the speed. Trails on average aren’t that technical by BC standards (although compared to maritime stuff, you’ll find plenty of tech). You won’t see much for tech climbs though. Lake country tends to have a bit more rocks and rock rolls than we do, but it’s very similar.

In general though, there’s so many options for trails in BC compared to NS/NB (assuming that’s where you’re from) that you’ll find there’s plenty enough for everyone, and for lots of people - it’s right in their backyards. What are you used to riding in the Maritimes? Two years ago I rode nearly every network in NS/NFLD/NB so I can do some direct comparisons!

Thank you for the good info. I ride wentworth and Macintosh trail system. I live by one of the trail entrances. I’ve been riding since 94 lol. Was old manager of mikes bike shop in dieppe nb. We made a few trips to Sunday river I broke my neck at Mount Saint Anne in 99. I rod a bullit of most of it till they went e!
Moab in early 2000. Then life happened Since then, ive toned down quite a lot. Injury’s had the best of me. Now im back to about 60% of what i was. I’ve a 5010 and chameleon. But I’m thinking after reading your post I’ll need a frame swap on the 5010 to something with a little more travel, due to my back. I’m not use to fast tracks anymore! And love my granny gears lol. But I’d rather go down than up.

Hey Rock, depending on the year of 5010 it would probably be OK out here - if its the mullet version you’re probably good to go, if not… 29er wheels will do wonders to smooth out our chatter. The Hightower or really anything similar would be pretty perfect all rounder for the area.

I already sold it, I have a new nomad 90 on route from Bateman bike shop. It should be at my new address in lake country the end of the month. I’ll try to get a hold of you when I get up there. We can go biking sometime. I can drive wherever it’s no big deal. I have a Toyota tundra so pretty easy..
