**Tom and Geoff’s Excellent Adventures

Moab 2011 (Oct. 1 – 8)
**
**G
****eoff Murray
** and
**T
****om Kavanagh
** would like to invite you on an excellent adventure. Come to Moab, Utah with us and enjoy mountain biking at its Mecca. Geoff and I have prayed at the altar to the mountain bike gods and are itching to do it again. So get on your knees you mountain bike heathens and pray that you can make the trip.

There are costs involved with such an adventure, but the fun certainly outweighs them. Geoff and I have done a lot of research on the Moab experience and would like to share our low-cost-almost-all-expenses-paid way of doing it. If you don’t mind 4 people per van and 6 people per Condo for a week then we have the trip for you.

We can get the week done for *$1450 per person. This would include Airfare (Air Canada), condos (more like townhouses which can sleep 8, for six nights) that are beautiful and well kept with all the amenities you would have at home with a Jacuzzi in each condo and a common pool and hot tub, vans (which we pick up and deliver at Denver Intl. Airport), gas for all the driving we do, shuttles (there are shuttle services that get you to the head of trails in Moab so you can leave the vans at the end of the trail, park permits (some of the rides are in National and State parks) and last but not least a hotel for your last night in Denver because the flight leaves early on the last morning.

Geoff and I did this trip in mid-September of 2010 with a group of 12 and found the weather to be perfect. Some days we did a ride in the morning, had lunch and went for a second ride. Some days we just did one epic ride. We ate at the condos for a lot of our meals, but ate out as well. Any food or booze will be paid for by you. We can do some communal dinners at the condos.

**All the prices above are per person based on 12 people (2 condos, 3 vans).
They may go up or down slightly depending on flight, condo and van rental prices. Get your down-payment in early to reserve your spot and hold your price!

*Price does not include Food, Drink, or Airfare for your bicycle ($50 each way)

Travel Day

11:20am flight

6:30pm flight

9:29pm arrive in Halifax

We will provide some helpful information for the trip including what you will need to bring, what you shouldn’t bother bringing, what you will need to get before the trip (i.e. passport, dual-ply tires, etc.), training suggestions (The better the shape you’re in, the more fun you’ll have!), and payment expectations – we require a deposit of $800 as soon as possible to save your spot and book the flights/vans/condos. The rest will be due by August 31st.

By our calculations, a grand total of $2000 for the entire trip will be WAYYY more than enough to eat, drink and shop ‘till you drop (That’s $550 on top of the trip cost of $1450 – yes we do math too!). That’s what we’re budgeting for ourselves (Each). If someone absolutely NEEDS that last little Moab trinket and can’t afford it, we may be able to hand out a small loan on the trip that you can pay back shortly after we return home.

If you’re not sure you feel like being a hammerhead and rocketing down a mountain for 5+ hours in one day, there will be other options available. This is not a trip for a brand new mountain biker, but intermediate and up are not only welcome, but will be looked after at all times while trail riding. We carry spare parts for mechanical issues as well as tubes, extra food, and first aid gear. We encourage you to be self-sufficient and will give you a list of “Must-Have” items for your hydration pack closer to the trip!

Please Note: This is the first draft of this document and as things change, which they often do, we will make sure to keep you up to date. We may also be able to add 4 more spaces to the trip, which will require another condo and another van, so if we have enough interest, there will be room for more!

Some tips:

-PASSPORT! YOU CAN’T GO WITHOUT IT. It takes time to get so start early!

-Travel insurance! American hospitals can be VERY EXPENSIVE!

-Buy American Money soon before the exchange rate gets worse

-Bring double-ply tires and at least 3 spare tubes. Assume you WILL get flats!

-DON’T BRING CO2 CARTRIDGES ON THE PLANE!!! Security will get you!

-A camelback with lots of water, tools, and ride supplies is a VERY GOOD IDEA!

-Digital camera!
