UPDATE ON HARTLEN PARK: Hartlen Park, off St Michael’s and Lois Lane in Spryfield, is getting an update. Phase 1 of the concept plan includes the parking lot, pathway realignment and playground equipment replacement.
The tender for the playground equipment has been awarded, but we are waiting for the new equipment to arrive. Installation of the new equipment is still planned for 2021. Once it is received I will let you know the installation schedule.
The tender for the new parking lot is scheduled to go out next week for construction completion by July 1, 2022.
The other elements are still in the planning phase and I will continue to work with staff, and our community partners, to see this project through.
I think this plan looks pretty awesome, beyond what was expected, and it would be a good idea to get on the horn to Councillor Cuttell to thank her.
I’ll also be suggesting accelerated timelines and real washrooms (with running water), in case ‘mini’ washrooms means something else.
There was a fair bit of input to HRM from MRWA early on in the park planning process, but that only goes so far.
As MTBers we sometimes become absorbed in our own self interest, but for a park like Hartlen, HRM needs to plan around the interests of 1000s of local residents and the little leaguers who have used the park for decades, not to mention serious budgetary constraints (parking lots and and washrooms, for example, are expensive to build and especially maintain long term). I’m impressed that Parks is planning as much parking and trailhead stuff as is shown.
As for the ‘mini’ stuff, I don’t know what that means. I suspect an ESL landscape architect may be involved, and that might be a factor.
I am joking (sorta) when i ask this but will there be room to take your bike into the washroom with you? i refuse to leave my bike outside where i cant see it.
