MRWA Trails and Ebikes

Thanks! I stopped reading at e-bike.

The ebike rule is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Some of us are old and out of shape trying to get back into biking. I understand not wanting ebikes like saurons in there but a class 1 pedal assist only, fuck them.

MRWA’s hands are tied due to the land use agreements. Blame HRM and the province for being behind the times as usual.

There’s no restrictions on e-bikes in the Trails Act.

See clause 6(f) of the act you link. MRWA has a Land Use Agreement that they have to abide by, and it includes restrictions on e-bikes.

As a board member of MRWA I disagree with this post in principle.
I’m going to try and link a previous post regarding e-bikes and MRWA, penned by former board member and prolific volunteer Lawrence, that sums up MRWA’s position on e-bikes incredibly well. And I want to reiterate that MRWA will continue to monitor and evaluate whether the policy is reasonable and welcomes thoughtful and informed input.

Moved the e-bikes discussion to its own topic to keep the Granite Fondo topic clean for those who need the details.

Responding to Craig’s question that didn’t get moved here.
The land use agreements were drafted by the land owners. MRWA and the landowners agreed to exclude motorized vehicles, including e-bikes, and this restriction is still in place. MRWA is open to thoughtful and informed discussion on the topic.

As someone who has never ridden their EMTB at MRWA, I catch an unusual amount of flack for having ridden my EMTB at MRWA. I’ll be sure to get right on that “twice as much trail maintenance”. Respectful discussion goes both ways.

Keith, my friend, we both know multiple people who own and ride e-bikes in MRWA regularly and do so respectfully. I would not report them, and encourage their use.

That land use agreement was written at a time when motorized bikes were not prevalent. It is up to MRWA to work to update the agreement to respond to changing times.

Craig I in no way meant to accuse you of riding your e-bike at MRWA. I can see how my post came across that way now, and I am sorry. I only wanted to answer your question.

Ive had mine in there only a hand ful of times. Mainly last year wheb i was just getting back on the bike after almost 4 months off recovering from a massive injury didnt have the stamina or fast twitch capabilities for the punchy stuff. The only thing getting hurt is peoples egos who chase crowns when a ebike rider forgets to switch their ride to ebike in strava

Thanks Keith. I sent you a message.

Does it poop on the steep sections like the Bowater horse?
