Fyi… I created a ride event sub category in events to allow for a template to help when posting rides. Feel free to use it as you want. Also the template is just a suggestion. Remove / alter it as you need.

I don’t see it in the drop down list of categories, when creating a new topic.

Works for me and permissions are set to everyone… maybe refresh browser tab?
