I assume that this land use agreement precedes the popularity of modern ebikes and should likely be revisited and renegotiated (I hope it does anyway, if it doesn’t, that feels a bit silly that ebikes are lumped in with motorbikes and such). Soon enough, there will be nearly as many users of those bikes as regular bikes and it will be wrong to keep them from using the trails. I highly doubt anyone will bother paying heed to that rule, anyway.
There’s plenty of ebikes in use in BC and on Quebec trail systems and FAR more users on those trails overall, so it can clearly be done without too much conflict.
I’m curious to see the data that was used to arrive at the decision to exclude class 1 e-mtbs. An IMBA study showed that trail damage from class 1 e-mtbs was not significantly different from mountain bikes. Results from the field experiment show that, under this set of conditions, soil displacement and tread disturbance from Class 1 eMTBs and traditional mountain bikes were not significantly different, and both were much less than those associated with a gasoline-powered motorcycle.
oh my, I didn’t even think about the e-bike thing, a little late now but apologies if that was not kosher!
Thanks to everyone who came to ride & chat! I had a blast (the fancy Bold Linkin didn’t hurt) and from what I heard from everyone y’all did, too! The Scott rep was super impressed with the crowd, turnout, and the trails, too.
