The Western Crown Lands (aka Bowater) and surrounding area are an underutilized gravel gem. There are hundreds of km’s of roads and trails in the Western Crown Lands that can be easily accessed from Upper Tantallon. I’ve been discussing the idea of hosting organized group gravel rides out of Upper Tantallon this summer. These rides would take a building block approach to fitness and skills, with the goal being the completion of the Tour D’Ingram at the end of the season. If you’re interested please hit the poll and/or reply below.
Are you interested in participating in group gravel rides in the Western Crown Lands?
I had planned on kicking these rides off this spring, but the bridge repair on Hiking Trail Rd has been delayed. Hiking Trail Rd is a key portion of many of the local gravel routes. The repair could be starting this month, hopefully there will be more information soon.
I’m not familiar with this area at all but I am interested in finding some gravel biking routes to get off the Rails to Trails that I have been riding. I assume the bridge crosses a fairly large river or body of water that is basically impassable without the bridge? Are there other routes that avoid this area that are 30k or so?
U can go from Ingramport, about 10km from the bean and into bowater. Your first right down the hill then right after the bridge can connect u into the Big Ingram.
I’m going to ride to the Big Indian Lake Dam from the Bike and Bean tomorrow. If you’re interested let me know what time works and I’ll post it up in the ride planner.
I’ll be hosting Thursday evening rides out of the Bike and Bean starting in September. If there’s interest I’ll keep it going until conditions are too bad to ride and start it up again in the spring.
Here’s the ride schedule for September: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th. Departing the Bike and Bean at 6:30 PM. I’ll post the rides to the event planner. I’ll post the route a few days before each ride.
