Super light bikes

Occasionally I visit a site called http://weightweenies.starbike.com/ It’s pretty amazing how light a bike can be built up.

This bike is on there now. An extremely light approx. 12 lb hardtail.

Supposedly the lightest recorded bike:

6lbs for the complete bike!

I am attempting to apparently make the heaviest commuter bike possible. Ask Sheldon.

I am confused as to why they bother with derailleurs on that super light road bike. Wouldn’t a fixie be a better choice to get super light? Or are they not considered road bikes?

Well, you could build a fixie, but think about how much all that hipster pretentiousness weighs.

Much more impressive that they did it with gears, imo.

I suppose that big chain belt would end up adding to the weight of the bike anyway. And when you are walking your bike, it doesn’t matter the weight.
