Trek E2 Headset

Does anyone have any experience with E2 tapered headsets.
Looking to get the crown race to fit the head tube. I don’t think I have the right crown race.
Will I need to buy a new headset and if so which type?

Thanks
Gian

Why do you think you have the wrong crown race?
What frame do you have?

Trek Hifi 2011
I assume it’s the wrong one because it is loose even though it is tight

Did you buy or replace the stock headset?
The crown race diameter for 1.5 steerer tubes is 40mm.
The bottom cups of headsets usually come with the correct crown race.

check to make sure your bearings aren’t cooked, or in the case of loose ball headsets that they are all there or that they aren’t pitted, crushed or damaged in some way.

Do they still make headsets like that, especially 1.5" ones?

If you do somehow have the wrong crown race, you may be able to buy just that part.
If you need a new headset, https://www.canecreek.com/headset-fit-finder is a good resource.

Also, if you do in fact need a new lower headset, I have a brand new one that I am selling and it will fit your bike. $50 - Cane Creek 40-Series ZS56-40 Bottom Assembly

They still make loose ball headsets for sure. I’ve never seen one in 1.5" but ya never know with Trek.
