Trek Procaliber Alloy?

I’m currently shopping for a hardtail frame to replace my current hardtail frame, due to a severe lack of tire clearance.

Some of the bikes/framesets I’ve looked at include the Canyon Strive, Specialized Chisel, and Trek Procaliber (Al). The Procaliber has the features I’m looking for including a threaded BB, clearance for 29 x 2.4" tires, and compatibility with a 120mm travel fork.

Does anyone on the forum have experience with this bike? Any pros/cons that are worth mentioning?

Good luck finding someone around here with one of those, ha ha.

I just had a look at mine but it turns out that I have a Superfly. Jaysus, I think it’s ten years old now. No complaints, though.

Not sure if you’d be open to steel, but the Soma Juice meets those criteria and though I don’t have experience with the Juice, my Riff has been surprisingly trail capable and still fast on gravel.

I dropped $3100 on a custom steel hardtail frame that was supposed to fit a 29 x 2.4" tire. Unfortunately it will only fit a 2.0", and that only gives me 7 mm of spacing on one side, and 5 mm on the other. I would probably have to order the Soma from the US, and pay tariffs on top of that. The Procaliber alloy is both cheap and available.

Wow that sucks ass and it is such a beautiful frame. Fillet brazing probably means that it can’t be partially rebuilt with wider stays?

I went back to the original builder with the bike and showed him the (lack of) tire clearance and where it is rubbing on the DS chainstay and seat stay arch. His solution was for me to run a smaller tire. I have a quote for a rebuild of the triangle from another builder, but I’m not sure I want to spend another $1000 on this frame.

I feel for you. It’s 2025 not 1995. Who TF is running 2.0s? Not even me.

I can’t even find one in stock. I built a new set of wheels with a King hub and 30 mm IW rims while the frame was being built. I’d have to rebuild the wheel with a narrower rim in order to run a narrower tire. This is incredibly frustrating. I’m currently at the point where I have to decide between spending more money to get what I originally wanted, or take my lumps and buy a new frame. All that glitters is not gold, or something like that.

For $1400 +/- more you could have a DeKerf. Not fillet brazed mind you, but still.

I had a DeKerf welded Chromag. Sweet bike, but way too long and slack for what I wanted to do with it.

That really sucks. I had totally forgotten about tariffs as I don’t buy many new parts/frames. The procaliber looks nice though

I bought a Procaliber alloy frame and built it with my parts.

You didn’t think about just adapting to the frame?

Nice, how does it ride?
