Personally, I think @Rolls last ride was so such a thorough sacking of Whopper that the only think he had left to do was set fire and leave:
Does anyone know the extent of the damage to the trail system? Did it burn Flipside, Death March or the Lake Loop?
Are we permitted to ride here now?
From the aerial pictures it looks like the fire may have torched the flipside entrance and cut across the powerline just to where lake loop/lakota way and death march meet.
Iâd be surprised if you werenât allowed in there. Itâs been pretty wet since Monday.
some footage from the ground:
I was in there yesterday. The burn starts at the second last big puddle on the access road on the right hand side riding in. It never crossed the road but crossed the powerlines and into the woods. I didnât ride Death March but from what i can tell I donât think it reached the trail. I was talking to a rather friendly firewoman from Natural Resources and she said, modestly, that it would have been much worse if it wasnât for the helicopters. She was watching for flare ups. There are still lots of hoses on the ground but everything seems accessible.
A few patches on Death March. #whopper #whopperfire #allclear #ecmtb

I stand corrected. Jetter did you happen to notice that someone rode a dirt bike through Death March? I donât think any fat bike has tires that fat. I walked it with my dog Scout before the fire and there were tracks there as well as at Suzie Lake. you must have to be pretty good to do that.
I road Suzie lake long loop today and at certain points could smell the burnt wood in the wind. Someone has been cutting small trees and branches and bending them across the trail on the far side of Suzie lake before you drop down to the power lines. I had to get off the bike a few times to snap them off so that no one got a face full of stick! The fire fighters were rolling up the hoses today. I gave them a lot of praise on the part of the mountain biking community.
I rode lake loop and took the exit that ends where death march also ends. All ok for that section.
So the only trail casualty was that section of death march. Lucky we are.
I didnât take that picture @wayners just saw it on instagram. Hate to hear that there are dirt bikes driving on the mountain bike trails.
Iâve seen dirt bike tracks on lake loop, death march and flipside recently. Nothing was torn up at all, just passive tracks. So they were riding pretty gently. I donât really have a problem with that.
Saw a guy at Fight Trail the other night on a dirtbike. Seemed to be riding pretty gently also but itâs not like a dirtbike is going to damage most of Fight anywaysâŚ
It was great to see that there was no damage. I canât imagine you could get up to any speed but even on the climbs he left little sign. Must be pretty good with his clutch.
A bit more burned than I expected but certainly doesnât affect the ride. It burned around the area of the two steep rocky drops.
Any opportunities for a trail change in all this I wonder? New entrance at mid point maybe?
The point where the fire started was near a trail I had begun but abandoned since it was too rough to condition. Could probably do it now with a broom.
I was actually thinking the same thing but then my greedy side kicked in and didnât want to make access to easy for folks coming up the road. Besides, you are pretty much at the end anyway. Death March is in bad need of a bush saw though. In many sections you canât even see the trail thatâs there. It has grown in a lot in the past few weeks.
@Wayners yeah Death March could really use some TLC. According to Strava it looks like some clearing was done on Sunday.
Thatâs awesome⌠way to go Tim!
Yes. I did see a section that had been done. Iâm willing to go in with anyone who wants to do some cleanup in there.
