Wiped out on McIntosh and witnesses left me passed out

Today I wiped out on the Divide and I landed on granite rocks bigger than basketballs. My forearm took the brunt of it and ripped a line of skin the entire length, cut my chin, knees etc. I don’t ride hard but this was a flukey wipe out. My bike just stopped abruptly on a small angled rock face and my left foot was 2ft above the ground and that’s the way the bike went. Anyway I dragged myself to a flat rock surface, and sat and was feeling nauseous and dizzy. I looked behind me and 2 older teens perhaps were 20ft behind me who may have witnessed it. One had short blond hair and I remember him smiling I barely got out the words… I wiped out. I laid back and blacked out. I woke up 5-6 min later (based on my strava data) and those 2 guys were gone! They never asked if I needed help or stuck around until I woke up. I am still livid because I’ve stopped for so many people in my decades of outdoor sports who look like they were in trouble whether it be on bikes, snowmobiles or atvs etc and the one time I’m in need, the assh0les left the scene.

Anyway I managed to bike the remaining way back to the vehicle, and called a nurse friend of mine for help. My right forearm is bandaged up with sutures and cuts were all cleaned. She insisted I come by and she took care of me. Thankful for her as a friend.

That is bloody bizarre. Sorry you experienced that, and shame on those fucking kids.

Hope you’re better soon.

That’s fucked up.

Surprised that you still have your bike. Just kidding.

Reminds me of the time some dude crashed at wrandees. I was working on warranty claim and heard this cry of pain on the other side(rose bowl) so I booked it over there as fast as I could. Helped him get back to his car. I think he broke something but he said he was good to drive.

I stashed my tools on the way to him. Didn’t want to get sued, ha ha.

If he Dies, he dies.

Kidding

Brutal but not surprising. Cycling culture has blown up without a lot of the etiquette mentorship like we had in the past. Its unfortunate but is what it is.

Glad your ok, hopefully biking turns those kids into more situationally aware human beings.

I don’t think they were on bikes, I think they were walking around. I was behind the beginning of Mica Crescent so maybe they were locals

I think I know who you’re talking about. IIRC, he broke his arm.

Good on you.

I met him a few years later but because even that was 25 years ago I don’t remember his name.
