Work Day at Nine Mile River Trail - Saturday Oct. 16

Work Day this Saturday Oct.16 at Nine Mile River Trail, 9:30am.

If we have a volunteer available and able to do chainsaw work, we would take down some trees that are overhanging the trail near the lake. It might be a complicated job as there are 4 trees hung up together, and one is fairly big. Once the trees are down and cleaned up, we’ll start prepping the logs for splitting to make benches and trail features. If you can do chainsaw work and able to come Saturday, please let me know.

If we don’t have a chainsaw volunteer, we’ll use reclaimed wood to build a small boardwalk over a small ditch that is draining water across the Dipper Lake section (past the lake). That will make the whole Dipper Lake section passable for bikers and hikers and opens up another 0.5 km of trail for hiking and biking. This will involve removing wood from decommissioned boardwalks, strapping it to mountain bikes, moving it to the work site, prepping the ground, and building the short (4-foot long) boardwalk.

Planning to ride in. About 35 min. ride to the lake. Another 10 min. past the lake to the work site on the Dipper Lake section. We have tools.

Logged some time at Nine Mile on Saturday.

Trees are down and cleared. Now have a log ready for splitting for benches and features. Some more mud and drainage work done too!

Didn’t get to the boardwalk. Maybe next weekend.

Thanks volunteers, especially @CyclingGirl, @Joanna , @darkmyth, and @liam !
