Volunteer Work Day this Saturday (Sept.30) at Nine Mile.
This week we’re going to repair the Stump-Mounted Bench at the top of the Big Hill, and work on drainage and erosion damage near the bottom of the Big Hill. The ditching on the Big Hill has worked really well to keep water off the trail, and to control erosion. This is especially important for the winter, when water on the trail freezes, making the hill a sheet of ice. The ditches do need maintenance though, as they’ve been filling in, and the water has overflowed onto the trail, causing big erosion ruts in a few places.
This week’s work sites are not too far into the trail – about a 15-minute walk. We will have tools. No need to bring any.
We’ll meet at the usual time in the parking lot this Saturday (Sept.30) – 9:30am.
Weather looks good for the weekend. Should be a nice day on the trail!
