2016/17 Winter Trail Conditions

Rode Evil Birch today. 100% free of snow and ice, bridge is in poor condition and our dirt biking friends have been in there in the last day or two.

Irishmans Rd conditions were good today (30 Jan). Trails largely free of ice and pretty firm.

Spider and Shubie area are pretty good all clear, with a few wet spots from run off, I’d call it hero-ish, it was starting to thaw and get soft by noon. Sliversides was perfect aside from the large fallen tree that you can’t go under anymore.

Thinking about an early Saturday morning Ride at Da Minion, Farside etc. Are the trails packed and rideable without studs?

Dartmouth trails are in great shape right now, no fat bike, no studs, no problems. Everything is just packed snow and what isn’t packed is still rideable. Bonus is there’s almost no ice hidden under the snow, just frozen dirt.

went to daminion, flipside, suzieq, powerline then exited via fire road going to parkng lot i would say its pretty rideable without studs. its just fresh 2-3 inch of pack snow rideable herodirt under it. With some spots specially boulders at suzieq that has some melting ice under.

Dartmouth/Spider Lake trails are fresh snow on packed snow all rideble, no fat, no studs. Put first tracks down on the Poker Run and Replicator, it was just hard to see exactly what you were riding on, I had a few slip-ups but no real problems. Ice under snow is solid and grippy.

Shubie is plowed on AT trail to Dartmouth Crossing, with some bare spot. Dog park trails are hard foot packed, almost no ice. AT trail along Lake Charles is fresh over hard packed with no ice, lightly boot bombed.

3 posts were split to a new topic: Shubie ride tonight

Any predictions for ridable trails by saturday or sunday? Looks like it might be too cold for a packable trail.

@JeffV Shubie is always a safe bet.

I’m planning to do some snowshoeing…maybe Friday night at Wrandees or Daminion/Farside.

there’ been so much awesome biking lately, I’m kind of looking forward to doing some nordic skiing…kind of.

I was thinking about snowshoeing wrandees in the afternoon if no school but if there is a group going wrandees or farside in evening let me know and I’ll tag along. Would be nice to concentrate efforts on a particular area and get it all packed nice.

I might be up for that.

Scratch that. Ended up going skiing and just getting back now. Going to do some snowshoeing tomorrow with a meetup group at spider. Hopefully our combined tracks will create some decent pack if its not already been ridden by the fat bikes.

Anywhere fit to ride? Shubie probably decent but anywhere else good to go?

where goin blt trails startin 12:30pm and might check if flipside is rideable.

Shubie is plowed and foot packed In the popular areas. Someone was riding in there late this morning. I’d imagine that beyond Dartmouth Crossing would not be very good.

If things arn’t rideable. Take your frustrations out with snowshoes. Snow shoe enough and it will become ridable. Big whollop coming on Monday too.
