Wow, thats a lot of rain, the remaining snow is supersaturated.
Ssshhh, what’s that sound??
If you listen closely you can hear the walkers lacing up their dogwalking boots to go stomp down the middle of your favourite trail.
If the bootbomb brigade didn’t get the trails anything that was hard packed before is going to be lovely smooth ribbons of ice when the temps drop again. Weeeee!
Was into shubie and spider today. Shubie was bare crusher dust until Lake Charles where it was full ice (studs a must) single track bits in the park would need studs.
Spider was icy until skull which was fully doable without studs. Getting to it was tricky as Replicator was icy as well as the ATV doubletrack.
Victoria Park / Railyard in Truro is excellent! Better flow everywhere right now except for around the main reservoir trail. Studs not needed if you are taking it easy but I’d recommend them.
Fat bike, normal bike, doesn’t matter. Get out there!
Norawarren was running awesome yesterday, with a lot of ice cover. Studs highly recommended.
Spider is currently one to two inches of light snow that seems to be just enough to make most of the ice rideable. Rep, inner, skull and the lopipop have traffic thread. Other trails have lighter traffic but the snow is easy to ride thru currently. You could ride with out studs on smaller tires but I was on studded fat and feel it was the best choice.
West Pine/ Norawarren are very good. Mostly snow covered, with of ice and bare patches near the end. Studs recommended.
The upper trails at The Links got groomed tonight. Should be set firm for the morning. Enjoy!
Skull trail is absolute dynamite right now - no studs required. Out to the bridge is probably the fastest it has been in years. Shubie is all passable as well (a little soft/bare dirt near Micmac where the sun is on it).
Skip riding on Shubie grey trail and take the lakes instead! So smooth. I was on Banook, Mic Mac and Charles over the last few days. Probably don’t even need studs with the snow condition on the ice.
Of course it is always worth checking the latest ice thickness results and exercising due caution.
Man I love riding across frozen lakes!
Since I usually ride solo, I’ll often have a small hatchet in my pack to personally verify the ice thickness and to make an 8 foot or so pole to carry horizontally across my handlebars- theoretically if I break through a thin spot I might be able to self rescue…
Anxiously awaiting trail reports. Share’em if you got’em.
The Victoria Park volunteers have been logging their snow dog activity on strava. 40kms of trail were packed again yesterday. Should be a ribbon of frozen flow this weekend.
Flipside is running great…studs required.
I want ride tomorrow. Fat or skinny but no studs. Truro to the Valley and anywhere in between. Let me know where
Spider is ok, studs a definite asset but you can pick your way through skull trail without. Replicator and humps are studs required.
A bunch of the trails at Anima Mundi in Gaspereau is groomed. We rode this morning and it was excellent, going for more laps tomorrow.
Truro’s railyard is amazing right now miles and miles of groomed trails. Everything the snow dog was on is solid gold single track right now but lots of ice studs a must
Spider Lake is excellent right now. That little skiff of snow we got last night crystallized on the ice and made for lots of grip. We rode a fatty with studs, a fatty without studs, a skinny with studs and a skinny without studs and we had no problems at all
