Anyone been to Spider Lake in the last day or so? Thinking about heading there after work. I would be riding fat at 4.8" and studless
Anyone been to keppoch lately? Not a ton of updates on the Facebook page.
Thinking of bringing fat bike/Tele skis/snowshoes up to cover all my bases…
I was into spider yesterday through shubie. Shubie with the exception of Lake Charles extension is plowed; Lake Charles is a slog.
Spider has Replicator and inner peace snowshoed. Rest isn’t rideable with a regular bike (skull hasn’t been touched). Fat bike would probably be fine.
Norawarren loop isn’t terrible but it’s pretty loose so you have to work for it.
West pine is awesome! It’s pitted from the walkers but the holes are not deep at all. The base is really hard packed and a decent width.
Duck&run was decent but too narrow to really enjoy…not much wider than one or two fatbike tires in a lot of places.
I can report that Spider Lake is MINT! Replicator. Ribbon of Love, Inner Peace, Six Pack and the Doubletrack are hard packed with an 18" wide groove. If you stay in it, it is rideable on skinny tires; Studs would be no benefit at all. Lego had not been ridden or packed. I gave it a go but had to walk 1/3 of the time. Hurricane had seen one bike but I suspect it too would need to be walked. Mississippi was good until you crossed the ATV trail and then the track disappeared. Skull was untouched.
I am going back tonight to take advantage of stellar conditions until the damn rain comes once again
Anyone been to wrandees? Saw some folks on strava rode it last night. I suspect it’s good with all the traffic it gets.
My wife was at Keppoch last weekend X/C skiing and says there was a ton of snow there and trails are groomed for XC and fatbike. Message them on FB, they tend to answer fairly quickly.
There is granular snow on hardpack on Bird Sanctuary. Where folks have snowshoed is a lot easier, but it’s all passable with varying degrees of effort.
The boys are saying that Wrandees is good for fatties, but not normal tires.
Any insight on gorge?
I imagine it’s about the same, but I do intend on finding out this evening if you’re interested? I’d say fat bike would be extremely beneficial.
There’s been lots of foot traffic in places at Wrandees, as you would expect, which made it pretty easy riding on fat bikes. Some of the more remote areas had less foot traffic, which made it a bit more difficult, at least for the guys up front. There are quite a few trees down on the Pipeline Loop, which sucked enough fun out of it that none of us wanted to do a second lap.
It’s definitely worth riding on a fat bike, especially now that at least five bikes have been through a bunch of it. There are parts that could be ridden on regular tires, but I don’t think it would make for a great ride overall.
Solid sunny day for Nine mile hike, wish I had a bike with me, MOO it’s 80% Hard packed Skinny friendly, 20% slightly loose going to lake, with 2ft-4ft wide mint trails. It’s a nirvana for fatbike and skinny out there today.
Was just out at Whooper and gave the Suzie Q and Flip side a stomp. Should be ok by tomorrow. I wouldn’t recommend getting in there today. Only Minion/ Ext and beginning of Flip Side are rideable today due to the foot traffic.
Can’t make this evening but I’m curious on the report If you do go!
Wrandees was good last night, it went above zero then froze up. No issues with non-fat, except far side of warranty claim, where is was a bit narrow. Pipeline was full of downed trees.
Rode Norrawarren, West Pine, Duck N’Run today and conditions were great! Some boot-bombed icy bits on West Pine but studs are not necessary. It got a bit narrow and snowy towards the end.
Rode Spider this afternoon. All broken in now, excellent conditions but you’ll want a fat bike for Skull, Major and Poker.
Long Lake is running great in most places, nicely packed. I had studs but likely rideable without (although they may have saved me a few times)
Was into wrandees and spider lake via shubie today. Wrandees is in good shape, spider (skull, Replicator, inner peace) are all in good shape and packed down sufficiently for a regular trail bike (only had time to ride half of skull though).
