This is an interesting thread.
That was my thread. I’ll be at the meeting as well
Anyone know if the meeting is going to be livestreaming or recorded for those of us who can’t make it?
Correct me if I am wrong but isnt this the exact same thing that happened last season for trail widening?
Yes. I don’t think that work was good either but the key difference this time is that there isn’t a trail association to back it. Some people were saying DNR was doing the work but I’m not sure. I wrote them an email today and will call them tomorrow to see if they know anything
Not sure if it’s going to be live streamed or not, but for any who would like to have their say and can’t make the meeting you can contact the three representatives for the area:
Councillor Janet Steele
phone: 902.471.3123
Email: janet.steele@halifax.ca
MLA for Timberlea-Prospect Iain Rankin
Phone: 902-404-7036
E-mail: info@iainrankin.ca
Halifax West MP Lena Metlege Diab

You can also contact DNRR at 1-800-565-2224.
If you see anything dangerous or un-lawful contact the Tantallon RCMP non-emergency line 902-826-3100 or 911 for emergencies.
I got a reply from DNR today. Turns out this work is being done by them, so it seems there’s not much to be done to stop it
IIRC they did similar work on the SMB trail last year. It reduces the amount of trail damage/cleanup caused by fallen trees after a wind storm.
They did in 2024, and I wasn’t happy about it then either. Almost 2 years later it still looks like a barren wasteland
I also believe its widened to assist with fire fighting if required.
That was what they claimed and it made some sense on the SMB but not here where you can see the road pretty much everywhere besides the long straight by Cranberry Lake
But Google told me to take a right at the intersection
This tracks. Google also tells people to take Lake Road(dirt road) to get to Tatamagouche. Its how we lost a bridge for a year.
FUGLY! May as well just pave it and put lines on it.

WTG, locals!
It’s stunning how bad DNR is at parks and trails. From this to the park closures most of the year. Who’s tried to park at and use Long Lake Provincial Park in a snowy winter? When I lived in Moncton the city parks were all cleared of snow, and sanded regularly, full of users. I know LLPP is not municipal, but it is in the city. The this whole model of requiring associations…WHY?
It pains me to say nice things about Moncton too.
Same thing they did to the bay trail, and now they’ve moved on to here. Really shitty
It really isn’t that bad. Grows back remarkably quick. I was on the BLT portion last week and they’re just finishing some work and it’s already starting to fill in.
