Climate change, man. That shit is real.
Heās right, yāknow. Extreme events are becoming more common and more extreme. Even in Halifax, there have been four āonce-in-a-lifetimeā storms in the last 20 years or so:
- Hurricane Juan
- āWhite Juanā blizzard
- Hurricane Dorian
- Hurricane Fiona
Despite all the rain and flooding in California right now, they are still expected to have major droughts and wildfires this year. (Source: NPR)
Dunno about climate change but Iāve seen both extremes this time of year over the years of mountain biking. Guaranteed if there is a race before mothers day itās going to be shit, though.
Report from the valley a couple of days ago.
Still snow/ice in the woods in the Valley, where there isnt, is mud. Weāre still a week or so until Bird and Moto stuff is fully clear (some is ridable, but not all). Several weeks for everything else to dry up
Mac run is clear as we have been riding there the last few weeks for the weekly ride.
The rail to trail from coke plant to bowater was clear with some wet spots last Monday. Very rideable.
Railyard update.
Upper trails - the frost is still coming out of the ground and snow and ice are still there.
Everything is wet even the gravel roads you leave a mark.
Nothing is ridable.
Being a watershed it takes a while to dry out.
Trail crew should be back in the next few weeks to assess and start repairs.
Well, that saves me a trip up to see if the dirt jumps have dried out. Thanks Keith!
Rode orange jelly , granutude and exited at nora last night. Orange is very wet. The bottom of the steep s turn is a mess. Granitude had several wet areasā¦ west pine , nora, warren, joe cracker are clear
Walked some of the trails at Reservoir Park in Wolfville yesterday to check out conditions. The loop is dry, skills park is getting close but still not rideable. Five Alive, Chesterās Chilli, and Rocky Road were all dry and rideable.
Didnāt venture out to the rest due to having by kids with me and they were bored
Bird sanctuary drying up nicely.
Was at Nine Mile today. Overall pretty dry.
First run for sawdust this year at Fitzpatrick Mountain. Apparently there is one trail open from the ballfield up to the chalets. Would probably be best to wait awhile. Pics are from the Reindeer Road/Maddieās Madness side.

River ridge commons is amazing not a spot of mud and freshly groomed by the looks of things
Rode Mcintosh yesterday from Clark Kent to Granitude, itās way drier than it should be this time of year. shaping up to be a great weekend for mountain bikes.
Itās been amazing the last week or two! Everything else is going to open up very shortly!
Walked some of wrandees the other day. Super dry and the jank is setting up nice.
Any trees down in there? Been wanting to head in there lately, but figured after all the storms there would be a lot of trees blocking the trails.
