I was in shubie the last two days main gravel trails on the front end before headint to waverly road are mint, some icy patches. The single track is ridable on fat bikes but slick. Studs advised. Just be catious
Needs some old Kenda tires for traction.
Rode Nine Mile today- Main Trail-Spruce Ridge-Karstaway. Mostly ice to Karstaway. Mixed snow ice to the Lake. Good studded tire ice riding. The Lake is probably ok to ride but I was out solo and didn’t want to risk it. Spruce-Ridge and Karstaway mixed ice, slightly boot-bombed packed and semi-packed snow. Mostly rideable. Weather looks good for riding until Wednesday.
Nine Mile is a mix of bare ground and ice. Pretty good riding with studded tires. A few soft spots on Spruce Ridge and Karstaway - not many, but quite soft.
Rode Bowater on normal trail bikes with regular tires. Not recommended. Lots of ice. Bring studs tho, and it’ll be great.
MacRun is running well. All the trails around the Osprey entrance are mostly clear and dry with a few small icy patches that are starting to melt and crack. No problems on studless 2.5s.
The Norawarren/Granitude side is a mix of sheet ice, hero dirt, and muck. Studs are a must. Get out there early before the sun does it’s work and it would be killer.
Also there is a tree down across the trail by the Lion King rock look off. Beware!
Pm me details please.
As of March 12, most of Kentville is still quite icy. Gorge hasn’t been fully packed down yet. It was a tough slog in places. Bird was clear and crunchy but ICY in places. Bottle rocket was basically a skating rink.
I think it’s time for annual statement that it’s mud season and please stay off wet trails and allow them time to dry.
This weekend is going to be warm and very tempting to ride but please be kind to your trails people.
Ive been away from Halifax for a while so im a bit of the loop. What trails are normally good to ride this time of year?
The granite portions of McRun are typically gtg at this part of the season. Bowater also drains very well and is more loam than dirt. The roads can be sodden, however.
Cole Harbour paved trails are good all year, about 40 min ride to do a loop.
Most trail in barrens is fine to ride whenever as the soil is basically just crushed granite
McIntosh is running well, the time trails and osprey are still too soft though. Assuming Norrawarren will be similar
Yeah, pretty much guaranteed that anyone riding the trails starting at the granite side of Duck and Run right through to NoraWarren is going to be leaving ruts this weekend. Almost a shame the sensitive parts of the system can’t be taped off until things dry out.
The main area of Macrun is fine, Time trails, Lous, attic, etc, all good.
Bowater is draining well, thr loam is a little greasy. There’s a few of the usual muddy spots. Knuckle Buster is a little jankier from the motos, but it should sort itself out as it dries.
