Ouhhhh this is gunna be interesting.
Anyone thinking on making a trip up tomorrow?
Sounds pretty decent.
For those experienced individuals, I’m trying to map this out because I do stuff like that… When it says "east - flying squirrel " I want to assume that means east of awesome and flying squirrel, but they aren’t connected to one another…Can someone clarify their meaning?
Probably summit east.
Do they normally run the enduro like this? What I mean by that is, I barely know anything at all about what’s happening next weekend. I know when to get there, I know when the race starts, beyond that…I know next to nothing.
Maybe I’m being too particular, however I expected more information to be provided…
Events in this province are usually short on information. It is the way.
You’ll be just fine. Pick some people that are around the same speed as you and make it like a big ass group ride. It’s pretty laid back. The chip timing makes it really run smoothly.
I rode up each climb with the same people last year and just took our time. The downhill sections are the only part that matter
Forgive me, my post wasn’t to say I’m worried. I rarely worry as a first responder. My issue is the lack of information, I am glad you can fill in the gaps, but it is their role to ensure there are no gaps in the first place. Sounds like someone is trying to protect their role within this race. It would be very, very little effort to provide a route map, an indication of who and what will be on site, a rough daily itinerary. Again, perhaps I am being too particular, but…this seems like poor event planning, volunteer or otherwise.
For instance, I am trying to prepare ahead of time, but it’s hard to prepare my gear for the race when I don’t know if I’ll be able to say stop at my vehicle between stages for fixes or fuel. If I can’t stop I need to adjust my pack/bike for fuel and tools to support me sufficiently for the day.
I’m SAR, I am 100% about preparing before hand for what the task is.
The race rules from last year are posted on their site. By the sounds of it you wont have a ton of time for repairs other than flat tires…
they do a sweep of the climb trails at certain points to eliminate people who are farther behind… if they sweep you your allowed to do the descent foe the corresponding trail but your cut off at that point
Posted on their site, but not emailed to entrants, or even information to say “hey check our website out for more!”
Shouldn’t have to go digging for information on an event I’ve registered for is my point.
Very true. Pretty sure they give the full run down at race time
Unless you are a very slow climber, you would have time to return to the car for a snack, mechanical repair, etc.
There was a huge queue at the top of the hill last year, you could climb to the top and have a 30 minute wait before it was your turn for a timed run.
That’s my wondering, can I make stops or do I have to be self sufficient? I’d like to keep weight down in my pack. Suppose it’s an easy thing to adjust the day of, I just am one who needs to plan things ahead of time.
I wonder what time it’s at.
But… where is it even? (Read in pink panther voice)
Last year I had time to go back to my car for snacks. I don’t think I even started my first climb until 45 minutes after the first guy started…
If its anything like last year you will have time to have a beer between runs. One at the top, one at the bottom, so bring a case instead of a six pack.
Good planning. I’ve calculated that my hydrapak will hold 3.6 cans of beer.
Rode the stages yesterday (along with others- it was a modestly busy day at Keppoch!) and like the changes they’ve made to the stages this year. Feels a bit more Enduro, a bit less DH than 2020.
Stage 1 has some decent length, transitions btwn three different types of trail/terrain and even has a couple of short climbs ( a few secs, not minutes) in it. Before anyone lights their hair on fire, short transition uphills are common in Enduro.
Should be a great time!
