Accorging to the Halifax website, Shubie park is fully closed.

No comment on how the rules are being applied :man_shrugging:t2:

Not commenting on how they are applying rules. But after one reads your post would think things are a go. Timing of the announcement could be off. :person_shrugging:t2:

Reached out to Mancini. According to him, “Shubie pumptrack, campground and ball field are open. The rest of Shubie park is closed”.

can anyone comment on the current state of the Glenbourne Jumps and pump track? I haven’t been there in a while?

Glenbourne pump track is in good shape - a couple of berms have a few weeds encroaching, and one low spot could use some drainage-nothing major. Small and medium dirt jumps are in ok shape-more dedicated jumpers might want some better sculpting. I didn’t ride the large jumps.

Mount Edward looks like it might be under construction? - temporary fence and signs up with some earth movers parked. Dirt jumps aren’t currently rideable. Pump track is rideable but small, rollers are getting worn and the berms are getting grassed in. Hopefully with the construction they are refreshing/revamping it and not removing it for more parking lot or something stupid- it did look like they were starting to heap some more dirt back there-perhaps for jumps? The bike park sign is knocked over. Not sure if anyone in the know can comment on the status of this place?

Easter Passage “BMX Track” says permanently closed on google maps. The sign is up. Rollers are worn. Berms are completely grassed in and the back half is pretty wet over the track. With a fair amount of TLC it would be a really fun place-even a couple of mats/carpets laid over the berms to kill the grass would go a long way.

I think I’m becoming more of an advocate for asphalt pump tracks for municipal parks. While higher cost/probably harder to find someone to build properly- I think the benefits of overall durability, able to ride in a larger weather range and able to accommodate skateboards and scooters would likely make them more useable and justify their existence better to the politicians/municipal bean-counters/public.

If done right, asphalt pump tracks can be amazing! I rode a couple in Quebec last year that were designed by Velo Solutions (Empire 47, and happened upon one in a random park at a random point where we stopped for a driving break). But I don’t think the city will word their tenders to get a proper company like that interested. Apparently, the new pump track in St. John’s, Newfoundland was built by Velo Solutions because the local trail association fund raised for it.

So if we want something good, we need to raise funds ourselves or somehow convince the city that their tenders should target companies who actually know how to build a pump track.

Is Shubie’s track not at that same level? I’ve never been on a Velo Solutions track so wouldn’t know.

Shubie seems pretty fun to me.

The pump track at E47 is so dang good. Well thought out and flows so well, and it has drainage built in.

Comparing the Shubie pump track to the E47 track is like comparing a Supercycle to a Yeti, two completely different levels.

Yup can confirm that E47 pump track is awesome, is certainly geared for bike flow above all else. Having said that, I think Shubie is a good first effort by HRM (having no idea of the cost comparison), and certainly popular with kids of all ages on all manner of wheels. I would love to see that enthusiasm translate to another paved track on peninsular Halifax or other communities on the east coast. I haven’t had a chance to ride the Port Hawksbury track yet - hopefully soon!

With the trail closures, time to resurrect this thread.

Scroll to the top for list of bike parks.

In need of conditions updates.

The only park I visited lately was Mt. Edward and it was in good shape. If anyone has any bike park conditions reports, feel free to leave them here.

Fall River Dirt Jump Park is abandoned. Unusable

Kai Matthews Bike Park is overgrown enough that it rolls very slowly, and pretty tight on anything that’s not a BMX

Paid a visit to a few bike parks a couple of days ago. All have poor maintenance. Grass has been cut around the jumps and tracks, but vegetation has grown up on the jumps and many pump track berms have grassed in. Pump tracks don’t seem to be used much.

Glenbourne -
There is a usable line over the jumps and most of the pump track. Looks like there is still a useable line on the pumptrack although the tighter berms grassed over. Unfortunate - it had the best pump track in the area other than the paved Shubie track.

Laurie Lively Park (Middle Sackville):
Worn down, but in ok shape. Grass on berms.

Williamswood (Old Sambro Rd.):
In pretty good shape (relatively). Lots of vegetation around the jumps, but the jumps are in pretty good shape. Three lines - small, medium and large jumps.

Charles Rd. Park (Timberlea):
Two small jumps ok. The pump track is pretty grassed in. Unfortunate - was a fun little pump track.

Kai Matthews Bike Park (Three Brooks/Hubley):
As reported, grassed in. Not very useable. Interesting sketchy feature that isn’t lined up with the jumps so not a great roll-in.

Leeward Drive Park (Tantallon):
Completely grassed in and vegetation growing over the jumps. Not useable in current condition, although might not take much effort to rehab the jumps. I guess there’s no community interest.

Maplewood Drive (Hammonds Plains):
Surprisingly useable. Tall vegetation on the jumps, but there is a line over them. No roll-in, so you have to pedal for speed.

Eastern Passage Bmx park. Holy cow. Wasn’t expecting much since the last time I was there it was overgrown. It’s getting a huge renovation. I hadn’t heard any news about this.

Plus the nearby skatepark has quite a few rideable features.

Shubie paved pump track of course in good shape. Haven’t ridden it since they put in the concrete side. The concrete side rides well. Had a good ride/workout and a couple of kids showing me how to jump.
