@IanM_MTB we usually try to get out right after a snowfall to beat down the snow and keep the trails rideable. Also the Tuesday night group rides sometimes turn into snowshoe outings depending on the weather.
I plan on getting the trails packed in the valley as I am able to, but looking forward to getting out at wrandees once the conditions are good.
I’m kind of curious if the dog walkers are following a good route on the pipeline.
We’re supposed to get a dump tonight and tomorrow. A foresee a call out for a stomping party too.
I’m planning to snowshoe tomorrow. Probably wrandees/pipeline. I’m bringing the whole family for some extra stomping power.
I would join but I have yet to get some snow shoes lol.
Lets all keep in touch here and focus efforts, so maybe wrandees is the preferred spot to snow-shoe after the snow tonight?
Definitely. Hopefully, we have the foot power to stomp pipeline and redline into a good base.
It seems like a pretty light icy snow so it may not pack down that well, but no harm in blazing the trail anyway.
Pipeline and Redline usually get packed well by folks with boots and dogs. I propose a stomping party on the NW Arm Dr side to get the Lake Loop and Red Trails into shape. My schedule is tight today but I may be able to get out so post up your times. There is a group planning to hit Spider later this morning.
What time are you thinking coaster?
Snowblower wouldn’t stay running so I’ll be shovelling this afternoon. Enjoy being in the woods!
are there any trails rideable this afternoon?
It will take a bit of stomping and a day or so of dog walkers to condition Wrandees or Spider.
If you want to come stomping, I have a set of lighter (good to 170 lbs) shoes and two sets of army style aluminum that I can lend.
The army aluminum shoes are tricky and big since they are designed for big dudes with guns, ammo and camping gear, lol.
I just got back from Shubie. There is one plowed trail through the middle of the park. It can be ridden with no problem. Once you get off the plowed trail it becomes impossible immediately. It is not packed down enough by the walkers as of yet
yes i would love to borrow and come out stomping.Let me know when @JeffV and yes i dont have any ammos and camping gear im just asian ninja who loves beer
Snowshoed around pipeline and rosebowl @ wrandees, had more or less zero impact, as the hikers, dog walkers had it pretty beat down already. Might be able to get through on a fatbike with 5" tires, anything else, not gonna happen.
-15 tonight, -10 tomorrow, the -1 to 0 Tuesday.
I’m wondering if it will firm up by Tuesday.
About 25 people snowshoed the pipeline today (at least). Just too powdery. At least the slushy apostle will freeze.
Any info on Spider?
I doubt that any trails will firm up until after it warms and then freezes again… Saturday is the safest bet especially for non fat tires. Any place that sees walking traffic will get beat to pulp while it’s wet later this week and turn to solid ice on Saturday.
Update on Shubie conditions:
The AT trail is plowed from Dartmouth Crossing entrance and down the main dog park boulevard. It’s all shallow hard packed snow, no ice. As of this morning the AT trail heading to Mic Mac Mall was not plowed and had minimal foot traffic
The most popular dog park trails are narrow foot packed singletrack that will be fine for fat tires. Once it gets a bit more foot traffic and sunshine many of those spots should be okay for non-fat by the end of the day. You won’t want to stray off to the sides too much with non-fat tires.
