As mentioned above. Whopper is a mix of ice, soft ice, frozen dirt, mud and downed trees that require a saw. All rideable, just not at it’s best
Went for a rip in Aub’s this morning. The trails are a freeze/thaw mix of ice, loam, crusty snow, and hero dirt. The roads are soft and muddy.
Rode in a ways at Norrawarren but turned around. Trail is too soft.
Fight trail is good to go, few slightly soft spots but very little
Fight is the place to be. 99.9 clear of snow and ice. I did flat lake loop and it’s in good shape just a few down trees.
I rode Bird sanctuary and Bottle rocket in the Valley last night. Super icy. Studs absolutely necessary.
There has been a motocross bike through some sections of Bird Sanctuary as of this am. Ruts are evident.
where is bowater trail?
St Margaret’s Bay, off the 103 just past Exit 5. The singletrack trails are pretty hard to find without a guide though, but if you look on Strava you’ll be able to see the entrances to some of them. Here’s a recent ride I did there.
Just rode Whopper again. It’s running fast with ice and hero dirt thanks to yesterdays freeze. Thanks to the trail elves that cleared most of the fallen trees.
Rode Norrawarren also great. Best with studs but doable otherwise.
Very little snow and still frozen at 1pm.
Bowater is mint with lots of ice and also some great sections of pure hero dirt. What a blast.
Rode fight yesterday (The Attic, Lou’s, the “original” Trail in, the Divide, down to the Lake etc) 95% ice free and what is there is mostly avoidable
Skinny, no studs. The bike I mean. I am definitely chubby but a stud nonetheless
thx will look for it when im in town!
Anyone been into whopper lately? Studs recommended?
A report from yesterday said that the power lines and Flipside had ice that you might be able to ride studless though there were a few sections that you might have to walk.
Hillsborough is in amazing condition right now… no need for studs but some sections yes so be careful
Spider is is a mixed bag of ice, hero dirt and soft/muddy spots. Looks like MX bikes went through Replicator, RofL and Western
How is Fight looking? Might take my 10 year for his first ride there this week.
Fight is great…the granite is completely free of snow and ice.
I rode fight this morning. Like @Rolls said, the granite is clear. But, what started out as hero dirt in the morning was soft and muddy by the time I finished. Particularly, the climb up from the lake was getting quite muddy.
