Current Trail Conditions

Things just kinda came together with the regular core group of volunteers.

Empire trails have been cleared of trees and leaf blown by a small but mighty band of volunteers. They are in great shape and ready to ride. Photo creds to @landandwater.

Nine Mile River Trails are cleared of Hurricane Fiona windfall, leaf blown and open. There is one big leaning tree near the top of the Big Hill that is taped off. Still considering what to do with it, if anything.

Fifteen volunteers and 101 volunteer-hours to get the trail cleared this week.

I’m overjoyed to have the trail system cleared in one week, and very thankful to all the volunteers who made it happen!

Took a hike out to fix the bridge at Whooper on the lake side. Someone was out with a saw and looks like most big trees have been taken care of.

Kudos to the tree cutters!

Bridge is good to go and the trails look like they got minimal damage.

Back open today at Glashow Hills in PEI!

Everything at Bowater is now clear of deadfall, except Little Bromont. It still needs a good raking, as there’s a bit of small debris around that could eat your derailleur, but it’s largely very rideable.

I scouted LB in the weekend. The lower section is going to need a reroute to get around a large mess of fallen trees. The root masses took the trail with them.

I picked up a bigger chainsaw the other day. My current saw isn’t big enough to make it though some of those old trees.

Anyone have any info on how River Ridge Common fared post-Fiona?

I was there yesterday. Trails are covered in leaves. Looks like only a couple of trees fell, and have been cleared from the trails.

MRWA is drying out. It’s a beauty day, get out if you can.

I hiked Death March and it’s all clear now.
Removed a lot of sticks from the trail (still a lot down so watch them) and two larger trees.
Someone had been through before me and cleared at least half a dozen smaller trees and some larger branches. If that person is on here thank you. :+1:

Hiked the part of Labrador Run (at least that’s what I’ve heard it called) from where you can connect to it from Death March to it’s beginning and that section is clear.

Trails are in good shape at Empire. They’ve cleared all the deadfall. The upper portion of bunny run that skirts near the field is closed for hunting season. It Also looks like they’ve done a fair amount of land clearing at the back of the other field (near Bi-hi and roller coaster), such that I think the switchback trail has been eliminated?

I may have missed it when through Clark Kent a couple days ago, but while riding tonight I noticed that there is a larger tree that has has become uprooted and is leaning over the trail along Clark Kent. I should have stopped and took a picture of it but didn’t think about it. It’s too large for a hand chain saw job.

It’s been there since the storm. Not moving at the moment. I believe it will be taken care of at a later date.

Whats the status of whopper these days? If I can convince the offspring to get out for a hike, we may bring some saws with us.
