Current Trail Conditions

FYI, there have been a pair of coyotes that have been wandering around McIntosh Run, last seen around Divide/Spar during the day. They’ve been coming close to the houses so they’re not super afraid of humans.

I tried Norawarren this morning. Its getting there but still pretty hard slogging on skinny tires. Possible a fat bike could navigate the conditions.

I’ve been snowshoeing in Bowater but the snow is pretty dry and not compacting well. Watch out for the Drop Porcupine on Dump Run.

Lots of effort being put into grooming The Farm right now. Shaping up really good for the weekend, even took the old Farm Dog Sled around for a lap.

Spider lake is packing nicely. Some of the trails are rideable,

tomorrow they all should be rideable.

For fat tires

The Railyard (Victoria Park, Truro) is most excellent for fatbiking at the moment

Spider lake is good low pressure fat bike riding

In rode NoraWarren on a Plus bike today (3.0). It was ok in spots, I was able to do the Nora Loop and Boulderama down to Gutterball. It was fun once I got going.

Just took the pups out for a snowshoe of Nora/West Pine/Gutterball/Boulderball. Boulderball looks nice and firmly packed from foot traffic, but the rest could use a few more groups of snowshoers to widen a little bit and pack things down. YIMBY is untouched but I’m hoping I can convince the dogs to do the full out and back. They’re still getting used to their suspenders and deeper snow, so I may have to ditch them to get it roughed in first.

Nine Mile has a packed base with a thin layer of powder. Walked and snowshoed yesterday as far as second entrance to River Run. Looks good for any tire.

The Rail-yard is currently the best its been in years.

We were there ( railyard) today, rode with some folks who had been there yesterday. Was told it was noticeable better yesterday. Was good but not great today

Rode 9M today. Would agree as far out as river run it’s firm and in good shape. After that it gets harder and big tires are recommended

If you’re heading into Bowater I don’t recommend driving in beyond the overpass. There’s a layer of ice under packed snow on the roads. If you leave the hard packed center track you may slide into the ditch. I got stuck, and recovered another truck. I’ve been snowsoeing the trails, but I haven’t been in there since Wednesday, so I don’t know if they’ve been boot bombed or not.

Spider lake Replicator and main road are good to go for a fat bike. The ribbon of love looks packed although I didn’t go up or down it. The climb trail was just snowshoed today probably good tomorrow. The flow trail and the old road have been snowshoed but are pretty soft. The snow was deep maybe by Saturday afternoon it will be OK to fat Bike on. There are lots of low hanging limbs because of the heavy snow on them. If if you go for a snowshoe, bring a set of loppers with you. I forgot to bring mine today.

Wrandees is in great shape again, it firmed up really quick after that last snowfall.

And all the deadfall and low hangers around the entire pipeline loop were cut this week, so it’s flowier now than it’s been in years.

Nine Mile isn’t well packed in yet. Will need a few more days of hikers packing it in.
